The number of Albemarle and Charlottesville residents applying for concealed-carry permits is on the rise.
Charlottesvillecircuit court clerk Llezelle Dugger says its been 20 to 25 per week, but in the weeks after 2013, probably double that.
Fear of stricter gun control legislation in Washington could be one contributing factor to the spike, as could the change of seasons.
Dugger says she expects another spike in July, after a new Virginia law takes effect that seals all concealed handgun permit applications.
