Coast to Coast with George Noory
A lawsuit is expected to be filed today in Charlottesville Circuit Court by The Monument Fund, the Sons of Confederate Veterans and twelve private citizens to keep the statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in Lee Park
The lawsuit says the city is violating Virginia’s monument protection law and operating outside of the authority of the General Assembly, and seeks to “freeze the status quo” in both Lee and Jackson parks to prevent any damages while the suit moves through the courts.
The suit also allegedly seeks damages against the city of Charlottesville and each member of city council for “acting recklessly and in deliberate disregard of the law”.
