Working Long Hours Can Affect Your Heart

A new study says working long hours can raise the risk of a common and potentially dangerous irregular heart rhythm condition.

British researchers found that people who work 55 hours a week or more were about 40-percent more likely to develop atrial fibrillation than people who worked 35 to 40 hours a week.

Atrial fibrillation contributes to stroke, heart failure, and stroke-related dementia.

The scientists studied more than 85-thousand people in the U.K. and three other European countries for more than ten years.

The study was published in Friday's edition of the "European Health Journal."
