Charlottesville Insights w/ Jeff Gaffney
A new, “green” police car is patrolling the Charlottesville Downtown Mall.
The Nissan Leaf electric car was bought using federal grant money from the Department of Energy.
Two of the vehicles are being used in the public works department.
Police are using one to see if the car is helpful in their operations. Their new patrol car could become a permanent addition.
The cars require six to eight hours to fully charge. A charging station is located in the Market Street parking garage.
