Area beekeepers are troubled by findings of a recent University of Maryland study on American honey bees.
A recent study shows high levels of fungicides in area beehives.
The fungicides were used to control mites that devastated bee populations 20 to 30 years ago, but accumulations of the fungicides are now believed to be driving the overall decline in bee populations.
Local beekeeper Ron Thacker sasy he doubts honey bee populations wil return to where they were 20 to 30 years ago.
Thacker added the only way to continue to help the bee population is by having more beekeepers.
