A proposal to make upgrades to Rapidan Road and create a new entrance to Shenandoah National Park has been denied.
Madison County officials had proposed making upgrades to the road in May and allow limited access to commercial vehicles for guided tours.
The proposal also included the creation of a new entrance in the upper portion of Rapidan Road.
Shenandoah National Park Superintendent Jim Northup said he could not support the planned changes to the road, which is mostly dirt and in rough condition.
Northrup however did say he was open to the idea of discussing upgrades for the road.
