The Virginia Employment Commission is urging any local federal workers who may have been furloughed to apply for unemployment insurance.
Officials recommend you file after the first week of being furloughed, but they do caution that you may have to pay back those benefits once the furlough is over.
Any federal employee or contractor is eligible to file a claim for unemployment benefits.
