(Metro) Amtrak is returning to Roanoke for the first time in 34 years.
The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation and Norfolk Southern Corporation have entered into an agreement to improve infrastructure between Lynchburg and Roanoke so passenger rail service can resume.
Funding for the project comes from the transportation bill signed into law by Governor Bob McDonnell last year.
