Congressman Robert Hurt and candidate John Douglass debated the issues in the 5th District Wednesday night in Danville.
Hurt said he will continue to work in Congress, with a bipartisan effort, to get Americans, young and old, back to work. He says Democrats and the President are getting in the way of any progress.
Douglass spoke about his experiences in the military and the work he's done right alongside different Presidents, saying America needs more soldiers in Congress.
Healthcare, legalization of marijuana, education, sequestration, or automatic budget cuts, were all topics during Wednesday night's debate but both candidates agreed that jobs are really what the people of 5th district are counting on.
The candidates will debate again on October 15th in Warrenton.
