The Albemarle County Planning Commission has approved plans for a shooting range to serve as a training facility for police in Albemarle County pending final approval before a consent agenda..
Opponents of the project said the gun range would affect their property values, threaten their safety and harm the environment.
Commission members say they will have an environmental stewardship plan, will work with a lead contractor, and that police will have a safety plan. Staff also stated that they are going above and beyond NRA recommendations.
Two members of the board voted against the range's approval.
The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted last week to move forward with the gun range.
