Nov 21, 2012 -- 11:41am

Governor McDonnell has pardoned a man wrongfully convicted of sexual assault.

26-year-old Jonathan Montgomery was convicted in 2008 of sexually assaulting Elizabeth Paige Coast.

Coast claimed Montgomery assaulted her when she was 17 outside of her grandmother’s house in Hampton in 2000 when he was 14 and she was 10.

Montgomery was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison.

Coast now says the assault never occurred.

McDonnell called Montgomery’s imprisonment “a travesty of justice.”

Coast is now facing prosecution for perjury.

Montgomery will be released Tuesday night from the Greensville Correctional Center.
