The Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors (CAAR) has added its support for landowners’ rights over the controversial Atlantic Coast Pipeline project.
In a letter to Gov. McAuliffe, CAAR says the use of eminent domain to gain access to private land brings up constitutional concerns.
They say while Virginia Law allows a company to claim eminent domain, that law may be unconstitutional.
State Sen. Creigh Deeds say he agrees with CAAR and even co-sponsored a bill to reverse the statute.
CAAR declined to express opposition or support for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, but urged Dominion to come to an agreement with all landowners; or to revert to existing rights of way for their pipeline.
