(Metro) Pope Benedict is resigning his papacy.
In a statement, the 85-year-old German born Pontiff says he arrived at the decision after coming to certain realizations about his strengths, "due to an advanced age."
Benedict will step down as head of the one-billion member Roman Catholic Church on February 28th.
He will be the first Pope to resign in nearly 600 years.
